- On November 3, 2006 over
200 people joined the Endependence Center at the Holiday
Inn-Greenwich in Virginia Beach to celebrate 25 years of
promoting independent living, equal rights and access for people
with disabilities in South Hampton Roads. The
highlight of the
event was a presentation called “The Journey” where the
accomplishments of the disability community over the past 25
years were shared. The keynote address was given by Mr. Eddie Turner,
Special Advisor to
Governor Kaine on Disability Issues. Mr. Brett Leake,
a disabled comedian,
entertained our guests and ECI's first Executive
Director, John Chappell, made remarks
and shared memories and stories.
