Beginning July 16, 2022, people can dial 988 to be connected to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
The new 988 dialing code will be available for call, text, or chat. Until July 16, those experiencing mental health or suicide-related crisis, or those helping a loved one through crisis, should continue to reach the Lifeline at its current number, 1-800-273-8255. The 10-digit Lifeline number will remain after July 16, 2022.
