Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security income (SSI) payments for approximately 70 million Americans will increase 5.9 percent in 2022.

The increase will begin with benefits that Social Security beneficiaries receive in January 2022. Increased SSI payments will begin on December 30, 2021.

The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) notices will be mailed throughout the entire month of December. It is possible that your friend or family member will receive their notice in the mail before you. Please wait until January before contacting SSA about your mailed notice. You can view your COLA notice online with your personal my Social Security account if you created it by November 17, 2021.  You can create or access your mySocial Security account online at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
